Cotake is an app for filming events together: a host makes an event with a list of shots, guests join, everyone films, and Cotake edits the clips into films. Cotake is run by Nsibidi Labs LLC ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect when you use the Cotake apps and this website, why, who can see it, how long we keep it, and how to delete it. Questions: support@cotake.app.
When you sign in with Apple (iPhone) or Google (Android), Apple or Google gives us a stable identifier for your account, which we store so you can sign in again. We store the display name you give us (Apple shares your name only the first time you sign in, and you can change it in Settings) and a random code that picks your generated avatar. Apple or Google may also tell us an email address; we don't store it. Sign-in sessions use short-lived access tokens and a refresh token, which we store only as a one-way hash.
The event's title and type (wedding, birthday, graduation or other), its start time if you set one, the film theme you pick, your phone's time zone (so films show the date as your guests lived it), the shot list with its titles and unlock settings, and the event's invite code.
Which events you've joined, when, and whether you're the host or a guest. While you're in an event's live screen, the people in it can see that you're there and when you're filming.
The videos and photos you film in an event: a smaller copy uploaded during the event, and the full-quality file, uploaded later (preferably over Wi-Fi). With each clip we store when you started filming (by your phone's clock and by our server's), how long it runs, its size and frame rate, which shot it belongs to, and a random device identifier that the Cotake app creates when it is installed. That identifier is not your phone's advertising identifier or hardware ID, and a new one is created if you reinstall the app. The full-quality file also carries these details inside it. Clips can include the faces and voices of anyone in view.
The films and poster images we make from an event's clips, and a record of how each film was cut, including the names of the people who filmed it, which appear in the film's closing credits.
Reports you file (the reason, any details you write, and what you reported), the people you block, and guests a host has removed from their event.
Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes your IP address and request details to deliver and protect the service, and keeps short-lived request logs (a few days). We don't use them to identify or profile you.
Podcast recordings travel directly between the phones in the room over your local Wi-Fi network. They are not uploaded to our servers.
We don't use your content for advertising, we don't build profiles of you, and we don't use your clips or films to train AI models.
We don't sell, rent or trade personal information, and we don't share it with advertisers or data brokers. We use these service providers, only to run Cotake:
Each of these providers is bound by its agreement with us to protect your data in a way that is the same as, or equal to, this policy, and to use it only to provide its service to us. We don't send Apple or Google your name, events or clips: sign-in happens between your phone and them, and we only check the result.
When you report or block someone, our moderators are notified so they can review it. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety, for example by reporting child sexual abuse material to the authorities.
In the app: delete a clip; as a guest, leave an event and choose to delete your clips; as a host, delete the event; or go to Settings → Delete account. Deleting your account deletes your profile, every event you host (with everyone's clips and films in it), your clips in other people's events, your memberships, blocks and sessions, and revokes Sign in with Apple. Reports you filed stay with our moderators, without your name on them. If you can't use the app, email support@cotake.app. Copies already saved outside Cotake, such as a film someone downloaded, are out of our reach.
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete it, by writing to support@cotake.app; we'll answer within 30 days. If you're in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your data to provide the service you asked for (contract), to keep Cotake safe (legitimate interests), and with your permission for the camera and microphone. You can also object to processing, and complain to your data protection authority. If you're in California, we don't sell or share personal information as the CCPA defines those terms, and you won't be treated differently for using your rights.
You can withdraw your consent at any time: turn off Cotake's access to the camera, microphone, local network or photos in your phone's settings (on iPhone, Settings → Cotake); delete your clips or leave events in the app; or delete your account in Settings → Delete account, which deletes your data as described above. Withdrawing consent doesn't affect what we did with it before.
Cotake is not for children under 13, or under the minimum age for this kind of service where you live, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has an account, write to us and we'll delete it. Hosts and guests should film only people who are happy to be filmed, and ask a parent before filming children.
All traffic is encrypted in transit, refresh tokens are stored hashed, and film links are long random tokens. No system is perfectly secure, so please tell us at once if you think something is wrong.
Cloudflare runs a global network and may store and process data in the United States and other countries. We are based in the United States.
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above, and tell you in the app before material changes take effect.
